Air Force footballer Hunter Brown dies at 21

Air Force football player Hunter Brown suffered a medical emergency on his way to class Monday and died, the academy announced Tuesday. He was 21 years old.

Brown, a second-year center for the Falcons from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was walking to class from his dorm when he collapsed. Emergency personnel attempted to save lives but were unsuccessful, the school said.

“Hunter was a standout offensive lineman on the Falcon football team and was highly respected in his squadron,” Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, said in a statement. . “The entire US Air Force Academy mourns his loss, and our hearts and condolences go out to his family, his squadron, and everyone affected by this incredible young man.”

Brig. Gen. Paul D. Moga, Commandant of Cadets, added, “It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I share with you that we have lost one of our own. He leaves behind friends, teammates in mourning, a grieving cadet wing and a devastated family.”

Brown has been with the Falcons for the past two seasons. He had a major in management and had a minor in French. He was assigned to Cadet Squadron 16.

“Our players, our staff and the entire Academy have been so blessed and lucky to have Hunter in our lives. It was a pure joy to coach and to have as a teammate,” the coach said. Air Force Troy Calhoun in a statement. “He was tough, a great worker, and no one tried harder for others than Hunter. His mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised a wonderful son who made each of us a better person. We love our big brother and our thoughts and prayers go out to the incredible soul of Hunter and his family.”

Brown played at Barbe High School in Louisiana before joining the Air Force.

Officials from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death. The Air Force said it was standard protocol for any death on base.
