The latest trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania it’s very clear : this movie is enough different from the previous two films in the series. And that point is now even clearer as one of the funniest characters in the original movies pivoted to a new role.
David Dastmalchian played one of the ex-convicts, Kurt, in both The ant Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. The character was a tech wizard and partner to both Luis (Michael Peña) and Dave (TI), all of whom not only helped the story, but were perfect comic relief. Well, apparently Kurt won’t be coming back, as a Disney press release reveals that Dastmalchian is playing a new character in the third film in the series named “Veb”.
Who, exactly, is Veb? We do not know. But with the onslaught of new characters sure to be introduced to the Quantum Realm, where much of the film takes place, we’re willing to bet there’s someone there. As for the reason for the redesign, a fairly well-educated guess can be made. Director Peyton Reed is obviously a fan of the actor and the story of Quantum is probably a bit too big for Kurt to play a significant role.
As Kurt and Veb, Dastmalchian becomes one of the few actors to have played multiple characters in the MCU. The other big one is Gemma Chan, who appeared as different characters in the two Captain Marvel and Eternals. Dastmalchien was already part of a similar small club of actors who appeared in both Marvel and DC properties. (Dastmalchian, of course, played the unforgettable Polka-point man at James Gunn The Suicide Squad.)
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters February 17 and brings back not just Dastmalchian, but Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas, while adding Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, Katy O’Brian, William Jackson Harper and Bill Murray.
