Chinese Tesla buyers protest price cuts: video

Hundreds of Tesla customers in China who bought cars from the e-vehicle maker late last year protested at Tesla stores after the company announced it would cut prices in response to disappointing sales figures , show videos.

Tesla lowered prices last week for its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China, which is the world’s largest market for cars.

The company slashed prices after the e-vehicle pioneer’s disappointing sales figures hit their lowest level in five months, with 55,796 cars delivered in China in December, down 44% from the previous month.

Tesla’s Model 3, the cheapest vehicle on the market, will cost Chinese consumers about $33,427, down from $38,704 previously. The Model Y price was lowered from $42,051 to $37,830.

Energy market analyst Anas Alhajji in Dallas, Texas, tweeted a clip of protesters entering a Tesla store in China.

“Protesters who bought Tesla vehicles stormed a Tesla store in China after price cuts demanding reimbursement of the price difference,” Alhajji said, asking if supporters thought protesters should be reimbursed for The price difference.
