Although the high-end tailor isn’t sure if Kate or Meghan cried, he offered his tailoring expertise to the Daily Mail about the toddler’s dress. He sided with both women when it came to the “scary” time before a wedding and “can understand why anyone would be upset if the dresses didn’t fit”. But that’s when he got down to business about custom-designed outfits by then-Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller.

“I feel for all of them because you wouldn’t want kids walking out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress – and that’s what they were,” Mirpuri explained. “The six bridesmaids’ dresses needed fixing, and we did.” He felt with his team that “immediately, the dresses of the six bridesmaids had to be repaired, because they were not going to fit”. In his memoir, Harry recalled Kate texting Meghan with a note about Charlotte’s dress being “too big, too long, too baggy”. The Duchess of Sussex offered a solution to see Mirpui do alterations, but the Princess of Wales insisted that “all dresses need to be redone”. One can imagine that request put a lot of stress on Meghan, who was already handling Thomas Markle’s press opportunities, so it’s easy to see how a disagreement between the two women played out. However, Mirpui apparently saved the day after working into the wee hours before the big day. “We left Windsor Castle at 10 p.m. the day before the wedding,” he concluded. “Did anyone complain that day about the bridesmaids’ dresses and their appearance?” The answer is no.”
