Michigan’s loss to TCU in the college football playoff semifinals is still stinging for the Wolverines, it also impacted the final standings.
The Wolverines finished the season No. 3 in the latest AP poll and the Horned Frogs passed the Wolverines to take second place.
Of course, the Georgia national champion retains the top spot after beating TCU 65-7 in Monday night’s national championship game.
According to UM’s Twitter account, this is the first time since 1947-48 that the program has placed in the top three in consecutive seasons.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Ohio State finishes one spot behind the No. 4 Wolverines, who missed a last-second field goal that would have seen the Buckeyes upset the Bulldogs in the semifinals.
Rose Bowl-winning Penn State finishes 7th to round out the rest of the conference.
