Transfer of Mississippi State quarterback Braedyn Locke commits to Wisconsin

There will be three new quarterbacks on the Wisconsin roster when the 2023 college football season begins this fall.

Tuesday, transfer of the quarterback from Mississippi State Braedyn Locke announced his commitment to the Badgers, joining other signal callers Tanner Mordecai (EMS) and Nick Evers (Oklahoma).

A true rookie, Locke did not play for the Bulldogs in the 2022 season. Locke was a former 247sports composite four-star freshman out of Rockwall High School in Texas. He chose MSU over North Carolina and offensive coordinator UW Phil Longo, Miami (FL), Wake Forest, Louisville, Kansas, Georgia Tech and others. According to 247sports, Locke was the nation’s No. 22 ranked flagger in the class of 2022.

Locke entered the transfer portal on January 4 and paid an official visit to UW last weekend.

“I want to thank everyone who made this past year in Mississippi State possible,” Locke wrote in a tweet. “I love my teammates and am so grateful for my time and experience in Starkville.”

As a high school senior, Locke threw for 3,657 yards with 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading Rockwall to a 9-3 record.

Locke is eighth transfer portal addition for Badgers and first-year head coach Luc Fickel. He joins Evers, Mordecai, defensive end Darian Varner (Temple), edge rusher Jeff Pietrowski (State of Michigan), center Jake Renfro (Cincinnati), defensive back Jason Master (Boston College) and offensive lineman Joe Huber (Cincinnati).

Locke will still have four years of eligibility.

According to the sources, UW is also expected to add more transfer prospects on Tuesday.
